Welcome to my Website. My name is David Ridler and I am a portrait artist. By clicking on any of the thumbnail pictures, you can see a larger image of my work. The two mediums I use are airbrush or coloured pencil. The images below, that have been painted using airbrush, are Adrian and Marilyn Monroe. These techniques and the materials I use are outlined below:-
Coloured Pencil Portraits
I use wax based coloured pencils and this medium is best suited for my colour work. The paper I use for this technique is called Stonehenge which many colour pencil artists believe is the best for this type of work because the surface is able to grip the wax and take many layers, producing vibrancy.
Airbrush Portraits
Here I use a water based medium and the paint is sprayed on to the paper. The paper I use for this technique is Bristol Board, (a very smooth surface) and I find that my monochrome work, (different shades of one single colour) suits this style. The smallest size of artwork I can paint in airbrush is A3, (113/4" x 161/2") or 297mm x 420mm.
Any of the portraits will display a classy look whether it be colour, black and white or monochrome. A black and white portrait can display a calming alternative to colour and if you decide to go with shades of a brownish colour (sepia) this can produce a nostalgic feel.
The most common sizes of portraits I produce tend to be about A3 in size, but they can be anywhere from 10" x 8" to more than A2, (24" x 161/2").
If you like my work and would like to commission an animal or human portrait then feel free to contact me.
